Athletic Leadership Council

Other Information:                 Made up of Junior and Senior student-athletes who focus on sportsmanship, leadership and community service endeavors

 

Dover High School Drama Club

When?                                     We begin the school year meeting on scheduled Wednesdays after school. Once the   rehearsals begin, we meet less frequently

Where?                                   Either the New DHS Auditorium, or Rm 267 if Audi is being used.

Other Information:                 This is the club that produces the school's plays, musicals, children's shows, coffee houses, and other dramatic events. This year we are also bringing a new addition to our group...dancers from the DHS Dance Team.

 

Earth Action

Equestrian Team - Oyster River

FFA—Future Farmers of America

Other Information:                 This is a student run organization. Students who are enrolled in an agriculture class can participate. We go on leadership events, farm tours, have monthly gatherings, and participate in state FFA competitions.

 

 

 

 

French Club

Other Information:                 The main purposes of the French Club are to promote enthusiasm among students for the French language and culture and to provide students with a friendly but serious way to approach a new language. Because of the club's interest in cultural diversity, involvement in the French Club also encourages exploration of other cultures

Students do not need to be enrolled in French nor do they need to speak French to join French Club

  

Gay Straight Alliance (GSA)

Other Information:                 GSA is a student-led organization that shall be mentored by an advisor to provide a safe and supportive environment for all genders, identities, and sexualities. All are welcome and no one is alone. All are accepted and no one is judged.

Granite State Challenge

When?                                     TBD based on team’s schedule

Can anyone join?                    A six-member team is usually selected by middle of October. Team members should have experience with Trivia games and quick recall. Also, most events take place off-campus and will require transport by a parent or guardian.

Other Information:                 NHPTV hosts a televised high school quiz show tournament each winter.  DHS’s team begins by selecting a six-student squad and competing in an initial written test to qualify for the tournament. If they pass, they will meet at NHPTV studios in Durham on Saturdays and Sundays, playing taped games until they either win or get knocked out by losing a match

Other Information:                 Interact Club is a community service organization associated with the Rotary Club. There is a $10 due requirement for new members and a 20 hour requirement for volunteering

 

Key Club

Latin Club

When?                                     Every Friday, 2:35-3:00

Can anyone join?                    All Latin students are welcome! Please attend at least 1x per month

Other Information:                 Latin Club is all about camaraderie. This is a time for Latin students to socialize and mix.  We eat food, plan themed parties for Halloween and Saturnalia (Christmas).  This year we will be doing a volunteer project too.

 Many Latin Club students are part of our Certamen team.  Certamen is Latin jeopardy.

 

Math Team

Other Information:                 Spirited competition in problem solving. Meets are usually on the first Wednesday of the month; we practice on the other Wednesdays. A student needs to have completed Alg. I in order to compete in 3 categories.

National Honor Society (NHS)

When?                                     Third Thursday of each month

Can anyone join?                    No, you must first qualify for this program (3.7 GPA), apply in the spring, and then be nominated into the NHS. (details listed in Program of Studies)

New Hampshire Technical Honor Society

When?                                     No regularly scheduled meetings, but they begin late winter/early spring

Where?                                   CTC Conference Room/Gourmet’s Table

Can anyone join?                    Must be referred by CTC teacher initially and then there is an application process with very specific criteria.

Other Information:                 Students must have an 87% or higher GPA in a CTC Major; Overall GPA of 3.0 or better; as well as attendance, character, and leadership in CTC program.

 

NJROTC 

When?                                     Morning drill practice 2-3 times a week for 15-20 min before school starts. We also take numerous field trips to other area schools for drill competitions.

Other Information:                  Learn marching techniques, comradery, and lifelong friendship.  We'll develop citizenship principles that get us out into the community and work toward being successful in all aspects of life. Students need to show motivation and commitment to improving yourself and the others that are in the unit.

 

Photography Club

When?                                          Every other Wednesday from 2:40-3:40

Can anyone join?                       Anyone who loves photography can join and you do not need to have taken a photo class to join.

Other Information:                     Photo club does community service art projects in the greater Dover Community along with taking photography-based field trips.

 

Project SEARCH

When?                                     Wednesdays, usually twice a month

Where?                                   Room 253—then to UNH in Durham

Can anyone join?                    Mostly open to seniors with an application process in spring of junior year.

Other Information:                 Students go to UNH to attend seminars on various contemporary topics.  After hearing the presentation, students attend small discussion groups to de-brief and share opinions

 

Red Cross Club

When?                                     Tuesdays, biweekly

Can anyone join?                    Anyone can join but members under 18 must have parental permission; all members are subject to background checks

Other Information:                 Service club to support community initiatives e.g. blood drives, response to victims of disasters, preventative initiatives such as diet/exercise, home safety

 

Spanish Club

When?                                    The Pulsera Project this fall and The National Spanish Exam in the spring.

Can anyone join?                    Pulsera Project in Fall open to all, National Spanish Exam open to students in Spanish class in the fall.  I am also open to other social/educational/community initiatives if students have a particular interest.

Other Information:                 The Pulsera Project is a nonprofit organization that educates, empowers, and connects Central American artists with students in more than 2,100 U.S. schools through the sale of colorful handwoven fair trade bracelets, or "pulseras" in Spanish.

Fair Trade projects support farmers and craftspeople in developing countries who are socially and economically marginalized and often face steep hurdles in finding markets and customers for their goods.  By bringing their products into the global marketplace, Fair Trade businesses greatly expand opportunity for these small-scale artists and farmers while also educating consumers about the serious impact that their purchases can have on people's lives all over the world.

The National Spanish Exam is a chance to test oneself in Spanish at a National level against thousands of other language learners and complete for a Bronze, Silver or Gold prize.

 

The Tide

Other Information:                 We are the voice of Dover High School. The Tide is the official student-run news source for our school community. Student work in connection with the journalism course to produce several newspapers and manage our website. There are many opportunities for students to bring their individual skills as we need more than just writers to produce an excellent paper. We're looking not only for writers and reporters, but also photographers, graphic designers, website managers, artists, camera operators, creative writers, managers of all levels of experience. One need not have any background in journalism to be part of the club.

 

Traditional Gaming Club

When?                                     Every Tuesday after school until 4:00

Other Information:                 Gaming Club is where you go for adventures in role-playing, defeat your class mates in a board game, or win a couple hands of cards. We do tournaments for fun and large social games. It's a great place to kick back and play some games. Bring your own game, or play any one in our every growing library.

 

World Arts Club

Other Information:                 You don’t have to be an artist to join.  Anyone who appreciates art and enjoys art and its related activities is welcome.

 

Youth-to-Youth

When?                                     Regular meetings each Monday from 5:00-7:00pm

Where?                                   McConnell Center in downtown Dover, ground floor, Door #7

Can anyone join?                    Yes, space permitting. Grades 9-12. $120 participation fee and completed application required.

Other Information:                 All activities promote a drug-free lifestyle. Students actively plan and conduct activities to reduce the harm of addiction and drug use. Students create radio ads that play on local stations; create presentations to perform in schools all over New England; perform skits; propose changes in state or local laws; and hold community events to get their message out. They also plan recreational events for members of Y-to-Y, just to have fun.

Percussion Ensemble

When?                                     Tuesday nights, 6:00-8:00 starting in November

Can anyone join?                    Ability to read music is essential. Starts November and runs to June.

Color Guard

When?                                     Two seasons: fall and winter. Fall Guard is part of the marching band, and meets Tuesday and Thursday nights; Also on Saturday mornings and afternoons when there is a show.

Can anyone join?                    Yes! Fall guard starts in June. Look for posted info and announcements in May/June

Other Information:                 This group performs at competitions with Marching Band, the Big E, Apple Harvest Festival, parades, and football games.  Requires dedication and a strong work ethic..

 

Winter Guard

When?                                     November through end of March Winter Guard has its own competitive season and meets Tuesday and Friday nights, and Saturday mornings

Can anyone join?                    Yes! Winter Guard starts in November

Other Information:                 This group requires dedication and a strong work ethic.  It is a tight-knit team and attendance is vital to their success.

 

Variety Show

When?                                     Monday nights, 6-9 during March and April (listen to announcements in Feb. about rehearsals, or inquire in Music Office)

Where?                                   Auditorium

Can anyone join?                    Yes, anyone can be in the big production numbers.  Individual acts require an audition.  Listen for announcements in March for information on auditions and meetings.
